INGREDIENTS FOR PREPARATION
- Chicken: 1 kg
- Onion: 3
- Garlic: 4
- Ginger: 1/2 inch
- Dry red chilly: 8
- Black pepper kernels: 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds: 3/4 tsp
- Coriander seeds: 1 & 1/2 tbs
- Cloves: 3
- Cinnamon: 1 inch
- Fenu greek seeds: 1/4 tsp
- Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
- Grated coconut: 1/2 cup
- Thick coconut milk: 1/4 cup
- Tamarind: small piece
- Oil: 3 tbs
- Ghee: 2 tbs
- Curry leaves: 2 string
- Salt: to taste
- Marinate chicken pieces with turmeric powder and salt and keep aside.
- Soak tamarind in little water.
- Dry roast all the whole spices and keep aside.
- Heat ghee in a pan and roast 1 onion sliced, grated coconut, chopped ginger and garlic in it till they turns its color.
- Allow it to cool and grind it to fine paste along with roasted spices. Add little water while grinding.
- Heat oil in a pan and saute remaining onion in it. Saute it till they get light brownish.
- Now add the chicken pieces and stir for 2-3 minutes on high flame.
- Reduce flame and cook for 10 minutes with lid closed with occasional stirring.
- Now add ground paste along with curry leaves, stir well and cook for another 5-6 minutes.
- Add salt also.
- Squeeze tamarind and add to the boiling gravy.
- Also add 3 cups of water, stir well and cook till chicken gets cooked completely.
- After chicken gets cooked, pour coconut milk to it, stir well and remove from fire.
