Kori Ghassi / Mangalorean Chicken Curry

INGREDIENTS FOR PREPARATION

  1. Chicken: 1 kg
  2. Onion: 3
  3. Garlic: 4
  4. Ginger: 1/2 inch
  5. Dry red chilly: 8
  6. Black pepper kernels: 1 tsp
  7. Cumin seeds: 3/4 tsp
  8. Coriander seeds: 1 & 1/2 tbs
  9. Cloves: 3
  10. Cinnamon: 1 inch
  11. Fenu greek seeds: 1/4 tsp
  12. Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
  13. Grated coconut: 1/2 cup
  14. Thick coconut milk: 1/4 cup
  15. Tamarind: small piece
  16. Oil: 3 tbs
  17. Ghee: 2 tbs
  18. Curry leaves: 2 string
  19. Salt: to taste
METHOD OF PREPARATION

  • Marinate chicken pieces with turmeric powder and salt and keep aside.
  • Soak tamarind in little water.
  • Dry roast all the whole spices and keep aside.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and roast 1 onion sliced, grated coconut, chopped ginger and garlic in it till they turns its color.
  • Allow it to cool and grind it to fine paste along with roasted spices. Add little water while grinding.
  • Heat oil in a pan and saute remaining onion in it. Saute it till they get light brownish.
  • Now add the chicken pieces and stir for 2-3 minutes on high flame.
  • Reduce flame and cook for 10 minutes with lid closed with occasional stirring.
  • Now add ground paste along with curry leaves, stir well and cook for another 5-6 minutes.
  • Add salt also.
  • Squeeze tamarind and add to the boiling gravy.
  • Also add 3 cups of water, stir well and cook till chicken gets cooked completely.
  • After chicken gets cooked, pour coconut milk to it, stir well and remove from fire.
Delicious Kori Ghassi or Mangalorean Chicken Curry is ready, Serve Hot with any dish.
