Chicken Varattiyathu (Oil Free)

Chicken varattiyathu is a fry recipe where we uses no oil. Here we uses little coconut milk while cooking, oil from coconut milk will be enough for frying this recipe. It is a simple recipe with mostly available ingredients in our home.



INGREDIENTS FOR PREPARATION

  1. Chicken: 1( medium)
  2. Garlic: 1 bulb
  3. Chilly powder: 1&1/2 tsp
  4. Pepper : 1 tsp
  5. Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
  6. Garam masala powder: 1 tsp
  7. Shallots: 10
  8. Thick coconut milk: 1/2 cup
  9. Salt: to taste
  10. Curry leaves: 2 strings
METHOD OF PREPARATION

  • Grind garlic, shallots,pepper, chilly powder, turmeric and garam masala powder together to get a smooth paste.
  • Marinate chicken pieces with this paste, add salt and thick coconut milk and mix well.
  • Cook these chicken pieces in low flame with closed lid till chicken pieces cooks well.
  • Now open the lid and dries up the gravy.
  • Now when water content dries up, oil from coconut milk comes out.
  • Fry the chicken pieces in that oil in low flame by stirring in intervals.
  • Turn off the flame.
Yummy chicken varattiyathu is ready. Serve hot at any time.
