Chingri Macher Malai / Bengali Prawns Curry

Chingri Macher Malai Curry Is a delicious Prawns curry prepared in coconut milk from Bengali tradition. It is one of most served Bengali dish with rice or pulav especially on special occasions. Fried prawns are cooked in coconut milk during this preparation. Gravy is rich and awesome with the goodness of coconut milk and other ingredients used while preparing. Chingri Macher Malai / Bengali Prawns Curry

INGREDIENTS FOR PREPARATION

  1. Prawns: 900 g
  2. Thick coconut milk: 3 cup
  3. Onion: 2
  4. Green chilly: 4
  5. Chilly powder: 1 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder: 3 tsp
  7. Sugar: 1 tsp
  8. Cinnamon: 1 inch
  9. Cardamom: 4
  10. Bay leaf: 1
  11. Salt: to taste
  12. Oil: 1/2 cup
METHOD OF PREPARATION

  • Marinate prawns with salt and 1&1/2 tsp turmeric powder for half an hour.
  • Prepare three cups of thick coconut milk.
  • Grind onion into paste.
  • Boil oil in a wok, fry the prawns till it turns golden.
  • Remove prawns from oil and add cinnamon, cardamom and bay leaf in it.
  • When it sputter, add onion paste and saute till it turns its color.
  • Now add chilly powder and remaining turmeric powder, saute for 2-3 minutes.
  • Pour coconut milk , stir and cook till it boils.
  • When it starts boiling, add fried prawns and green chilly(cut into thin rings).
  • Close the lid and cook for 15-20 minutes in low flame.
  • Now mix sugar with it.
  • When the gravy starts thickening, turn off the flame.
Delicious Chingri Macher Malai/ Prawns coconut curry is ready, serve hot with hot rice.
