Chicken shakuti is a delicious chicken gravy recipe with the goodness of coconut pieces. It is a traditional recipe in roasted coconut paste and have a flavor of tamarind from Goa. It goes well with any dish. This tasty gravy is spiced with addition of green chilly.
- Chicken pieces: 1 -1 &1/4 kg
- Onion: 2 big
- Green chilly: 6
- Grated coconut: 1 cup
- Coriander seeds: 1&1/2 tbs
- Cumin seeds: 1 tsp
- Fennel seeds: 2 tsp
- Kus kus: 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder: 1 tsp
- Mace powder(jathipathri): 1 tsp
- Coconut pieces(cut into small thin pieces): 1 tbs
- Squeezed tamarind: 2 tbs
- Oil: 1/4 cup
- Salt: to taste
- Cut the chicken into small pieces and marinate with salt and keep aside.
- Roast grated coconut, coriander, cumin and fennel seeds, kus kus and turmeric powder in a pantill coconut turns to brownish and grind them into smooth paste.
- Heat oil in a wok, saute ground coconut paste, green chilly and chopped onion in it.
- When it get sauted well, add chicken pieces, coconut pieces, mace powder and salt.
- Stir well to get mixed.
- Squeeze tamarind in 2 cups of water and add to the above gravy.
- Stir it well and cook in low flame.
- After 15 minutes, turn the flame to high and stir cook till oil seems on top.
- Turn off the flame.
