Chicken Shakuti

Chicken shakuti is a delicious chicken gravy recipe with the goodness of coconut pieces. It is a traditional recipe in roasted coconut paste and have a flavor of tamarind from Goa. It goes well with any dish. This tasty gravy is spiced with addition of green chilly.

Chicken Shakuti

INGREDIENTS FOR PREPARATION
  1. Chicken pieces: 1 -1 &1/4 kg
  2. Onion: 2 big
  3. Green chilly: 6
  4. Grated coconut: 1 cup
  5. Coriander seeds: 1&1/2 tbs
  6. Cumin seeds: 1 tsp
  7. Fennel seeds: 2 tsp
  8. Kus kus: 1 tsp
  9. Turmeric powder: 1 tsp
  10. Mace powder(jathipathri): 1 tsp
  11. Coconut pieces(cut into small thin pieces): 1 tbs
  12. Squeezed tamarind: 2 tbs
  13. Oil: 1/4 cup
  14. Salt: to taste
METHOD OF PREPARATION
  • Cut the chicken into small pieces and marinate  with salt and keep aside.
  • Roast grated coconut, coriander, cumin and fennel seeds, kus kus and turmeric powder in a pantill coconut turns to brownish and grind them into smooth paste.
  • Heat oil in a wok, saute ground coconut paste, green chilly and chopped onion in it.
  • When it get sauted well, add chicken pieces, coconut pieces, mace powder and salt.
  • Stir well to get mixed.
  • Squeeze tamarind in 2 cups of water and add to the above gravy.
  • Stir it well and cook in low flame.
  • After 15 minutes, turn the flame to high and stir cook till oil seems on top.
  • Turn off the flame.
Delicious Chicken Shakuti is ready. Serve hot with little coconut pieces on top.
