Dal Fry (Restaurant Style)

Dal fry is a lovely vegetarian curry that suits with white rice, ghee rice, roti , chapathi or anything. It can be prepared easily and healthy simply from our kitchen.

INGREDIENTS FOR PREPARATION
  1. Dal(tuvar dal alone or a mixture of tuvar & masoor dal): 3/4 cup
  2. Onion: 1
  3. Tomato: 1
  4. Green chilly: 2
  5. Dry red chilly: 3
  6. Ginger: 1/4 tsp
  7. Garlic: 3 cloves
  8. Mustard seeds: 3/4 tsp
  9. Cumin seeds: 3/4 tsp
  10. Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
  11. Chilly powder: 1/2 tsp
  12. Garam masala powder: a pinch(optional)
  13. Kasuri methi: 1 tsp
  14. Asafoetida: a pinch
  15. Ghee: 1&1/2 tbs
  16. Lemon juice: 1/2 tsp
  17. Curry leaves: 10-12
  18. Coriander leaves: 1 tbs
  19. Salt: to taste
METHOD OF PREPARATION
  • Soak dal for 30-60 minutes.
  • Pressure cook soaked dal with a pinch of turmeric powder, little salt and 2&1/2 cup of water for 1-2 whistles.
  • Heat ghee in a wok or pan, sputter mustard seeds in it followed by cumin seeds.
  • Add chopped onion and saute till it turns soft.
  • Now add ginger- garlic paste and saute 1-2 minutes to remove its raw smell.
  • Now add green chilly pieces, whole red chillies, chilly powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida and curry leaves.
  • Saute till a special aroma arrives.
  • Now add tomato pieces and cook until it mashes.
  • Slightly mash cooked dal and add to the above pan.
  • If it is to thick, you can add little more water. Donot add too, as dal fry should be little thicker to taste better.
  • Add salt, crushed kasuri methi,and boil for 4-5 minutes.
  • Now add garam masala powder, lemon juice and coriander leaves, stir well and remove from fire.
Delicious restaurant style , tasty Dal Fry is ready, serve hot with rice or roti, chapathi.
